Jeanie Kay Sends: I started this review, then she called me back and said she only has 2 cabins left Little Doe, $135, sleeps 2, and Bonanza, sleeps 4 call now if you want it, 719-395-2509 or book on line if you can't get her My Review of Rainbow Lake Resort: If you are a couple or small family, looking for an older cabin at a budget price with exceptional views and free fishing right outside your front door, then Rainbow Lake Resort is the place! Beautiful Lake and views, nostalgic cabins and free fishing (no license required) in their very well stocked trout lake! Rainbow Lake is in the Collegiate Peaks mountain range of the San Isabel National Forest about 8 miles west of Buena Vista, Colorado, a short and beautiful drive out Cottonwood pass from town Rainbow Lake Resort sits at an elevation of 9,362 feet and consists of 26 adorable cabins spread out over 160 acres, each with gorgeous lake and mountain views Each charming cabin features a fully equipped kitchen and bath, comfy beds and cozy living spaces The cabins rent from $125 (one room cabin that sleeps 2, has a separate bathroom, but kitchen, sofa and bed are all in one room) up to $200 a night for the cabins with 2 queen bedrooms, a sleeper sofa in the living room, a larger kitchen/dining room (sleeps up to 6) For reference, the Vista Inn is $175 to $200 per night +hotel tax = The cabins are older and not luxurious I LOVE luxury hotels, but with the beautiful lake views, I really did not care! I loved the hummingbirds on the porch, stepping out on the porch and ha ving a view of the lake The lake is just steps outside the door and we CAUGHT FISH! There is even a cleaning station at the dock "Our Lake is a private lake that offers Rainbow, Browns, and Brook, plus we stock Rainbows regularly No fishing licenses are required for our guest to fish on the lake At about 25 acres there are plenty of places to cast a line or just sit on a bench and enjoy the mountain views We also rent row-boats if you want to get away from shore Walking paths and hiking trails surround the lake including the Colorado Trail, which runs adjacent to the resort Mountain Lodge Condos Located in the Mountain Lodge, each condo is a two bedroom two story unit with kitchen, living/dining room combination Our newest addition, the lodge units combine modern convenience with mountain charm Inside you will find a small living and dining area, a private bedroom with a queen bedroom on the main level and a loft with two queen beds Enjoy the cool summer evenings on the balcony overlooking the lake There are 3 Mountain cabin homes on the property, each are 2 bedroom and require a 6 night minimum The website is a little tricky to see the "homes", click on the dropdown menu under "cabins", then click on "Mountain homes" The link to "availability calendar" is broken from this location, instead, click on the picture of the home to see the pricing never mind i think they are booked At the Lodge you will find the office, tackle, gifts and incidental groceries just a short walk from each cabin Please check out Vista Court Cabins and Lodge at www vistacourtcabins com They normally do not book until 6 months out I have placed a call to the owner and am attempting to negotiate a contract for her to hold the whole property for our reunion for a small deposit on my part She will contact me within the next 2 days If she says yes, these will be held for us until the individual families can go on line in 6 months and pay (I will work out individual family reservations so we know before hand who will get what) This property holds 54 guests in 8 cabins, 2 cottages and a lodge that has 5 queen rooms They have a joint courtyard, a small community room and are located in town in Buena vista, similar to the Thunder Lodge where we stayed 13 years ago Thunder Lodge is closed at this time Please do not bother attempting to call or search for reservations at the Surf Hotel or the sister property of Surf Chateau They have a Wedding on Saturday July 31st and the entire property is booked for that night So, unless you want to come early and check out on Saturday and sleep in a tent or somewhere else on Saturday night lol They are a LOVELY property!! Rooms start at $260 a night at the Chateau and start at around $300 a night for the Hotel If you are camping in a tent or camper or coming in an RV, then Arrowhead Point Campgrounds and Cabins (have a few cabins and yurts, I have not heard back from them on availability for our weekend), will be our go to place for those looking for those services They also have a large 1600 foot covered pavilion which may be our meeting place at some point during the reunion or not again, depends on a lot of non-returned phone calls at this point I will keep you posted as I learn more!
